Gig Review – Aberfeldy, Unkle Bob, Iain Morrison Celtic Connections

THE ARCHES, GLASGOW

The Glasgow-based five-piece Unkle Bob followed Iain Morrison with the performance of the night.Bucking the trend for decibel-addiction in the current music scene, Unkle Bob are committed to a beautiful acoustic sound, and to their own brand of quirky melancholy.

With double bass, mandolin and banjo, tabla and djembe drums instead of a drumkit, they create a stage for accomplished musicianship.

Rick Webster’s expressive voice and a repertoire of tuneful happy-sad songs recalls the likes of Nick Drake, and they share with bands such as the Beautiful South the ability to sing about complete misery but still leave you feeling warm inside.

… compelling to listen to.
