Hey. Hi. Hello.
This is Rick here from Unkle Bob. Its been a while since the last post entitled ‘Unkle Bob split’.. and I come here with some not insubstantial news…
I’ve decided to carry on writing and recording on my own as Unkle Bob. I spent a large part of my life performing under that name and I want to keep on making music. In some ways it represents a personal battle which started in 2008 when I lost my voice after a fairly gruelling tour. This is unfinished business for me.
I do realise that Unkle Bob is known as a band and I don’t want to disrespect all those past members and team that was Unkle Bob circa 2002-2011 (particularly Ron, Stu, Chloe, Chris and our managers/ producer Aaron and Saul). They are okay with me carrying on and I haven’t closed the door on working with any of them in the future. Anything is possible.
The new EP is called “LETTERS EP” and contains four new songs penned over the last year and a half. I wrote and recorded large chunks of this in my bedroom and then hired two musicians to record drums, bass and piano live in a studio called La Chunky in Glasgow Scotland. Some other friends and family added strings, trumpets, and BVs.
These songs are very close to my heart and represent a kind of new chapter in my efforts as a singer and songwriter. “Turning Pages” is co-written with Nell Bryden (www.nellbryden.com) after a period of time i spent as her tour manager and whose album “Shake the Tree” is currently all over radio 2.
I’m releasing the EP via Pledge Music so you can pre-order it now. The downloads will be delivered direct by email on Christmas day (25.12.12). The physical part of the release will be delivered to your mailbox in early January 2013.
